Youth Labor Market Blueprint

Youth Labor Market Blueprint Cover

Choosing a career path can be confusing for today’s youth. This is a Youth Labor Market Blue Print that was made specifically for teens to navigate the labor market. We have highlighted some of the skills and requirements that they will need to find a good job or to begin a career path. The North Shore has a high concentration of stable industries that have historically employed a large number of North Shore residents. Employment in the region tends to have consistent patterns in good and bad economic times making the area a good choice to reside. However, the best employment prospect now have a high level of educational attainment or require several years of apprenticeship training. Teens can use the Youth Labor Market Blue Print to discover the different North Shore industries. The Youth Labor Market Blue Print will help match a youth’s own abilities and aptitude with the career opportunities available throughout the North Shore.

Youth Labor Market Blue Print Poster are available to education providers free of charge. Posters are 18X24 and feature descriptive elements of the Youth Labor Market Blue Print with a QR code that links to the document. Interested parties should contact the WIB office for a free copy of the Youth Labor Market Blue Print Poster.

STEM Industry Profiles

Last year the WIB hosted a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Summit that brought guidance counselors from local area high schools and employers together. The summit focused on the importance of STEM careers for North Shore employers and the skills needed to obtain these careers. Participating Employers included Analogic, Mircoline Surgical, Applied Materials, Fleet Machine, North Shore Innoventures, New England Biolabs, and EBSCO Information Services. Guidance counselors all had one-on-one time with representative from each company. After the event, the WIB produced STEM Industry Profiles based on the information given by our employer representatives. The STEM Industry Profiles are listed below and are based on the line of business of the employers who attended the event. These profiles provide a resource for youth development professionals to share with teens on STEM careers available on the North Shore.
